Butra HeidelbergCement comes on board as title sponsor of Brunei Championships

Bandar Seri Begawan, January 25: The prestigious Brunei Championships will welcome Butra HeidelbergCement Sdn Bhd (BHC) as the tournament’s title sponsor when it returns for its second edition on the Asian Development Tour (ADT) from April 24 to 27.

The Butra HeidelbergCement presents Brunei Championships, organized by SPS Innovative Enterprise and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sports and various government agencies in Brunei Darussalam, will offer an increased prize purse of US$75,000 and held at the picturesque Empire Hotel and Country Club.

At the recent signing ceremony, BHC reiterated its delight to support the event for the second consecutive year since the inaugural edition in 2018, which marked the sultanate’s first professional golf tournament in eight years.

SPS Innovative Enterprise, event promoter for the Butra HeidelbergCement presents Brunei Championships, was also pleased to be partnering with BHC, which is the premier cement manufacturer in the country and the first cement company in the sultanate that domestically adds value and employs over 70% of locals into their workforce.

They also expressed their appreciation to Mar’azmala Petrol Station and DST Communication for their financial support towards the event which will provide more playing opportunities for local golfers to improve on their skills and rise up the ranks.

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports hopes that the staging of the event will once again promote Brunei as one of the premium golfing destinations in the region and encourage young Bruneians to take up the sport.

Defending champion Kiradech Aphibarnrat, currently ranked 38th in the world, dominated the field in March last year when he completed a stunning wire-to-wire victory to win his third ADT victory by six shots.

The big-hitting Thai, who was crowned the Asian Tour Order of Merit winner in 2013, is also a supporter for the development of talent in the region, and has lent his star credentials to several ADT events in Asia.

The leading seven players on the ADT Order of Merit at the end of the season will earn playing rights on the premier Asian Tour for the 2020 season.

All ADT events offer Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points. The winner will receive six OWGR points while the top six players and ties will also earn points based on a sliding scale.
